How to Fix the Microsoft Office Error Code 1402

The 1402 error is a very common problem that shows when you're trying to install Microsoft Office onto your PC. This error is generally caused by the installer being unable to open / write certain registry keys on your PC, preventing it from being able to install the application you need, causing the error to show. In order to fix this, you need to be able to repair the problems that are causing the 1402 error, allowing your system to install Office and work correctly.

The specific causes of this error are that you're either trying to install the Office software on a computer older than Windows 98 or your user account does not have sufficient privileges to write to the registry. This error should be fixed by first ensuring you have administrator access to your PC, and then fixing the registry.

The first step to fixing this error is to ensure that you have the correct privileges for your system. Each time you try and do anything on your PC, your user account has a set of privileges which determine whether it's able to perform the operation or not. Unfortunately, many of the accounts that people have will actually not have the correct permissions that will allow them to install programs, which will be the likely cause of the 1402 error. In order to repair this problem, you should look to use different user profiles or make a new one and use that.

If you try a different user profile, and find it does not work, then you may have a problem inside the "registry" of your PC. The registry is the central database that Windows computers use to help them recall various different files & settings that your computer needs to run, such as the likes of your desktop wallpaper, latest emails and even your Internet bookmarks. The registry is a vital part of the Windows system, and is continually being used to help your computer run as smoothly as possible.

Unfortunately, this part of your PC is also one of the biggest causes of problems for Windows, as it's either being saved incorrectly or being damaged. This problem is very easy to fix, by using a "registry cleaner" program - which is designed to scan through your computer and repair any of the damaged files / settings that are inside the registry database. Using a registry cleaner is actually one of the most beneficial ways to fix the 1402 error, and should be used.
