Microsoft Project 2010

Microsoft Project 2010 is announced as the latest step in its next wave of Microsoft Office 2010 related products such as Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, Microsoft Exchange 2010, and Microsoft Visio 2010. Microsoft expects that this will give users a consistent experience across the PC, mobile phone and browser. They also boasted that this latest Project 2010 will be the most significant release of Microsoft Project in a decade. But what will be so revolutionizing about it? Let's get into some details.

Features of Microsoft Project 2010

It will be built on SharePoint Server 2010 to allow easy integration with Microsoft Office and Exchange enhancing collaboration capability as well as easy deployment and scalability. It will be simple and intuitive enabling the organizations of all sizes to select and deliver projects on time and on budget. For example, you can simply copy and paste materials from Project into presentations.

All aspects of Project and Portfolio management will be integrated on single server sharing a data store with centralized administration. Earlier, users had to use gateway software to link separate Microsoft Project and Portfolio products. End users can access a common UI and customizable controls for better PPM and resource allocation. There will also be some new views like Web Based Project Editing, Timeline and Team Planner with user controlled scheduling.

Different Editions of Microsoft Project 2010

Unlike the previous four editions, there will be three editions of Microsoft Project 2010 namely Microsoft Project Standard 2010, Microsoft Project Professional 2010 and Microsoft Project Server 2010.
